The Shri.Thiagarajar Maha Temple  at Tiruvarur is one of the incredible ancient heritage temple and an  archaeological Treasure of our Mother  India.

After Big Bang the first land portion cooled and formed  the earth at the “Mooladhara Skhstram” Tiruvarur “ depicts as “LAND “ among the Panja bootha Shetras. The temple is first among the seven  ‘Sabtha Vidanga Skhtrams” .

The Hindu Mythology confirms the first visit of Lord Shiva & Ambal to the Earth was made to thiruvarur and bless the origin of the Temple . Siva Legends surprised about the origin of the Temple before or after Thirukailayam .

We can see the complete form of Lord shiva and ambikai only two days in a year  i.e on during PANGUNI UTHIRAM &  another Day On MARKAZHI TIRUVATHIRAI. The most of them knows that on the two days we can see only the holy  feet of Lord Shiva but the actual dharshan along with feet of Lord shiva is Lord Muruga between his parents .A man who is blessed by Lord Shiva  can only feel and see the divine experience .The God is an Emperor and decorated with swords on both sides. There are Two wings on both sides depicting the GOD along with the Goddess Flown from heaven by sitting on YALINI PATCHI means a Bird called YALINI from Heaven.

Later the  Maha Shrine built by the King AdityaChola in 9 th century and completed by RajendraChola & KulothungaChola in  10^th & 11^thCentury .Till then the land is ruled by LORD SHIVA  as SHRI.THIAGARAJAR  accompanied with the GODDESS NILOTHPALAMBAL& GODDESS SHRI KAMALAMBAL  governs and gives  all the wealth and  vidya  power for mankind .

Manuneethi chola who ruled in the landwho ran his chariot on his own son to meet out justice to the cow whose calf was killed by his son, caught under the chariot.

The deity is on RatnaSimhasana (throne made of precious stones). In the southwest corner of the inner prakara Nilotpalambigai is seen blessing her child Muruga sitting on a maid’s shoulder.

 Goddess Kamalambigai is in yogasana pose during penance in another sanctum.

 The flower is used for the offerings of Goddess Kamalmbikai Ambal keeping the flower in her hand and blessing the chidrens the "Vidya Shakthi"

Navagrahas are not as usual in a circle around the sun but standing in a row. All the navagrahs are facing Lord Thyagarajar having No vagra means No evil sight from all plants indeed bless the devotees who visit this temple. We can  carry all the prasadas to our house infact some practices followed in the other parikara shstalas by leaving or issuing the prasadas in the temple itself.

                    Once upon a time the samanars visited the temple and asked the siva yogi Nami  Nadhi Adigal “can you lamp the holy lamp with water with the God power?”. There was a miracle happened Naminandhi Adigal who is true hearted to Lord Shiva lamped  the holy lamp with water  .

SANGEETHA MUMMOORTHIGAL & NALVARAL PADAL PETRA THALAM

The temple is famous for saivaTHIRUMURAIGAL likeDEVARAM, THIRUVASAGAM by Shri APPAR, THIRUGNASAMPANDAR ,MANIKKAVASAGAR& SUNDARAR. Tiruvarur is the birthplace of musical trinity Thyagaiah, ShyamaSastri and MuthusamyDikshithar.

Thiruvarur is famous for music and fine arts , there were 18 musical instruments played in this temple during puja . Still the practiceis being  followed at the time of worship  

Rare musical instruments Panchamugavadyam with five heads representing the five heads of Siva and a nadaswaram called parinayanam could also be seen in this temple. The musical instrument  Kudamuzha has got five faces and is ornamented with the snake, the swastika and the lotus on three. The fourth face is plain without decorations. The central face shows the face of a deer. It is said that Nandi played on this when Siva danced. 

In the Past decades there was plenty of  Archaeological studies were carried out by our Archaeology department  ,Foreign researchers and research students of India .

The Scripts engraved around the temple wall reflects the Human life secrets and future predictions .This is  stood an anchoring symbol , a living lend of the Chola Kingdom as a Tamil civilization.

 The temple is gigantic in structure with sky scraping Gopurams on all the four directions.The west gopuram  is designed with  fine sculpture. The sculptures depicts all the siva sidhdandhams can be easily understandable in the form of idols

Opposite to the west Gopuram there is a famous  holy tank known as Kamalalayam where Goddess Kamala (Lakshmi) took her birth. It is considered to be biggest tank in the whole of South India, having an island temple in the middle dedicated to the Goddess. Goddess Mahalakshmi married Maha Vishnu here and called Tiruvarur called as Kamalayam

Shri Naganatha swami is ruling in this temple and removes all sins and Naga dhoshas. There are 64 wells around the temple immersed in the holy tank which equals to the holy bath in Rameshwaram temple.

THE FAMOUS FLOAT FESTIVAL CALLED THEPPAM FESTIVAL AT THIRUVARUR

More than a lakh people from all over the world  come and see the Float Festival, where Great Musicians & Scholars  give their performances. The Float, shown below  50’ x 50’ size and 30’ height. It houses nearly 600 people while afloat. The Festival is for 3 days. It will be a heavenly experience to hear the holy voices sweeping the waves of kamalalayam water and touching our divinely souls.

The temple has the speciality of  five holy charriots for the deities namely 1. TheArulmiguAzhliTher(Holy chariot of  Arulmigu God Shri . Thiagarajar 2. The ArulmiguAmbalTher (Holy chariot for Arulmigu Goddess)3. The ArulmiguVinayagarther (Holy chariotfor  Arulmigu God Ganapathy) 4. The ArulmiguMuruganTher(Holychariot for Arulmigu God Karthikeyan) 5.The ArulmiguSandikeswarTher (Holy cahriot for Arulmigu God Sandikeswarar).

THE BIGGEST CAR FESTIVAL IN ASIA

Tiruvarur Shrine Car is the Biggest CAR in the world constructed by the Devaloga Sculpturist “MAYAN” .The CAR is being pulled by the people without any communal difference stood an example of NATION’S INTEGRITY.

Here we wish to highlight the scientifically proved evidence of the reason for conducting the CAR FESTIVAL every Summer Season. The weight of the Chariot is more than 399 tons with an overall height  of 30 M .During the CAR MOVEMENT around the four streets of this temple the land is pressed down to an extent to pressurize the ground water below and makes the thrust to move the ground water upwards to reach the plant roots to survive and progress in summer period.

The truth is our human life is based on “Divine support”.  What we have expressed is  invisible but it is very powerful. HE CAN WISH AND MAKE TO HAPPEN”.

Here at MOOLADHARAM Lord Shiva & Parvathi Devi in the form of ARROOPAM” i.e invisible and can be seen through the third eye.Who ever wants go for meditation can start their journey a blissful experience from this temple .
